Movie Summary
Mangal, (Rajesh Khanna) a hardened criminal, escapes from the hangman's noose at the last minute. His life of crime began with a fight for "Roti" (food) and a fight for 'roti' led him to the gallows. On his escape, he leaves behind his associates, and the long arm of the law, to settle down in a small village on the Indian border, away from all the people he has known so far. Here he meets Bijli (Mumtaz), a 'davawali'. Enchanted by the simplicity and sincerity of these simple people, he stays with a blind couple, adopting them as his foster parents. Just when things seem to become rosy for Mangal, the police and his associates trace him to the village forcing him to try and cross the border with Bijli.
