Movie Summary
Episode 6 - Champions of Reform and Social Change: The Dalai Lama - Tenzin Gyatso, as he was born, the Buddhist spiritual and political leader believes the troubles of this life can be overcome through mental and spiritual strength. After years of seeing his people suffer years of Chinese rule, the Dalai Lama fled to India in 1959, forced into exile after the Chinese occupation of Tibet. Even in exile the Dalai Lama has campaigned to save his countrymen from the tyranny of Chinese rule. UNICEF - Unicef is committed to the plight of disadvantaged children, from those caught in war, poverty, famine or natural disaster such as earthquakes, to those affected by tragedy, violence, AIDS and even disability. According to their charter they are bound to advocate for children's rights, to help them meet basic needs and give them opportunities to reach their full potential. John Bird - the founder of the Big Issue had a difficult start to life. Homeless, then sent to an orphanage at age seven, he fell into crime and spent time behind bars. He turned his life around however, his own story leading him to an inspirational idea. The Big Issue is a publication that aims to help homeless people earn an honest income and create opportunities to help themselves. PETA - People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals is the largest animal rights organization in the world and improving the plight of Spain's bulls is one of their top priorities. Both the fighting and Pamplona's famous "Running of the Bulls" are seen by PETA as cruel and unnecessary. The organization focuses on the four areas where animals suffer the most intensely: On factory farms, in labs, the clothing trade and the entertainment industry.
