Movie Summary
Episode 7 - Iconic Directors and Film makers: Martin Scorsese - He was raised in Little Italy in the forties and many of his movies reflect that American-Italian upbringing. Scorsese's films range from 1970's cult classics like Taxi Driver and Raging Bull to 90's mobster film Goodfellas. He attributes his love of film to hours of sitting in dark cinemas as a child, due to debilitating asthma, which prevented him from playing sports with his peers. David Lynch - Avant-garde director Lynch is perhaps best known for the odd and disturbing Blue Velvet, starring Dennis Hopper and Isabella Rossellini, but it was for his chilling 70's film Eraserhead that he first received cult status. His dream sequences and images are often confusing, forcing audiences to think about his abstract ideas long after the credits roll. Alfred Hitchcock - His knack for thrilling and chilling audiences, most times in the space of one movie, has given him the nickname "the master of suspense". Hitchcock had the ability to draw in the viewer and hold them there, breathless, waiting for the boogeyman to jump out at them. During this career, he directed more than fifty films, including Psycho, the Birds, Vertigo and Rear Window. Quentin Tarantino - Possibly the most distinctive American director for his violent style and uncompromising subject matter, Tarantino seemed to blast onto the scene in the mid-nineties, where he quickly gained cult status. Tarantino's films stood out for their clever dialogue, intricate weaving of pop culture and bursts of extreme violence and has captured the audience's imagination with movies like Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill Volumes 1 and 2 and more recently, Inglorious Bastards. Steven Spielberg - He's known as the most influential director in the industry and is undoubtedly the king of the blockbuster, with a slew of highest-grossing films to his name, including Jurassic Park, E.T, Jaws and Raiders of the Lost Ark.
