Movie Summary
Episode 3 - Remarkable Female Politicians: Indira Gandhi - The first and only female Indian Prime Minister, the much loved and admired Indira's main focus was combating poverty. With more than a third of her nation living below the poverty line, the poor were not just statistics to Gandhi. Her agricultural innovation program ensured that her people had food for the long term, avoiding continual handouts from the world powers. Margaret Thatcher - The former British Prime Minister's career has been one of the most remarkable of modern times. She served from 1979 to 1990, a record unmatched in the 20th century and during her term reshaped almost every aspect of British politics. She was a key figure in handing over Hong Kong to the People's Public of China, also playing a part in putting an end to the Cold War. Hilary Clinton - Becoming US Secretary of State in 2009 has been the pinnacle of the career of Hilary Clinton, a powerful woman in her own right. The former First Lady has experience as a corporate lawyer, where she no doubt honed her skill in public speaking. She became a tireless fighter for Educational and healthcare reform and has inspired the respect of voters for her intelligence, diligence and unwavering support for her husband. Benazir Bhutto - She described herself as a "daughter of destiny" and ultimately, with her views on democracy, became a martyr for the cause. Born into a political dynasty like Indira Gandhi, her family reputation gave her credibility, but despite this, was twice dismissed as leader after allegations of corruption. On December 27, 2007 Bhutto was assassinated while leading a campaign rally. World leaders have encouraged Pakistan to honour their former leader by continuing with the democratic process, the cause for which she gave her life.
