Movie Summary
Watching the dying embers of her mother’s funeral pyre, Leela (Dimple Kapadia) questions her life setting in motion events that changer her irrevocably. She travels to America as a visiting professor, leaving herperfect life behind her. She wears her Indian identity on her sleeve, as it were. Kris, born Krishna (Amol Mhatre), is a product of a single parent home, his mother Chaitali (Deepti Naval). Uncomfortable, more American than his buddies, with a hovering mother and a father of convenience, Jai (Gulshan Grover), who is living with a woman, who is not his wife, Kris finds friendship and comfort in Leela. He is mesmerized by her quiet dignity and a strong bond develops between them. Leela shows him a world beyond black and white, and Kris in turn, pushes Leela to question and crystallize the gray areas in her life. Her crumbling marriage to the world renowned poet Nashaad (Vinod Khanna), a philanderer. When Nashaad realizes that Leela, his true love is slipping away from him, he tries to reconnect with her. He fights to keep his love. Unleashing a storm that turns everyone's life upside down. First time director and writer Somnath Sen does a measured, matured and comprehensive job of dealing with the merging sensibilities of the two worlds, the Asian and the American. Deepti Naval as Chaitali and Gulshan Grover as Jai, give polished performances that embellish the film. Dimple and Amol are just superb.
