Movie Summary
Paheli is a love story based on "Duvidha", Vijaydan Dethan's re-telling of a classic Rajasthani folktale. In true fairytale style, it tells the story of Lachchi (Rani Mukherji) - an innocent girl married to moneyminded Kishan (Shah Rukh Khan). On the night of their marriage, Kishan leaves to pursue his business interests. However, a ghost (Shah Rukh Khan) who has fallen in love with Lachchi, disguises himself as Kishan and wins the heart of Lachchi and all the family members. When the real Kishan finally returns five years later, confusion understandably abounds until a wise old shepherd (Amitabh Bachchan) devises three tests to resolve the "Paheli" that has baffled everyone i.e. finding out who is real Kishan.
